Tutorial #5

Go from Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us to Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

1) Take your base and duplicate (ctrl + j) it. Set the duplicated layer to screen. I set the opacity of this screen layer on 34%, but it depends from picture to picture, so I guess it's best you fiddle around with it a bit until you think it looks okay. The picture doesn't need to be too bright, but not too dark either, try to find a good balance.

2) Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color. I used these settings:
To get rid of the yellowish shine of candles in the pic, I fiddled around with especially the yellow and reds. To make the green of the ivy around Ryan's neck come out a bit better, I played around with, of course, the greens, but also the neutrals. By making some changes on the blacks, I changed the brightness of the colours in the picture a bit.

Reds
Cyan: +100%
Magenta: +2%
Yellow: -23%
Black: +3%

Yellows
Cyan: +100%
Magenta: -8%
Yellow: -34%
Black: +17%

Greens
Cyan: +100%
Magenta: +100%
Yellow: +100%
Black: +100%

Neutrals
Cyan: +36%
Magenta: +10%
Yellow: -6%
Black: +9%

Blacks
Cyan: +22%
Magenta: +7%
Yellow: +2%
Black: 0%

3) Add another Selective color layer, with these settings:
I wasn't entirely satisfied with the colouring, yet, so I made some more, changes.

Reds
Cyan: +74%
Magenta: +11%
Yellow: +10%
Black: +4%

Yellows
Cyan: +100%
Magenta: +11%
Yellow: -17%
Black: -19%

Greens
Cyan: -100%
Magenta: -12%
Yellow: +47%
Black: +26%

Neutrals
Cyan: +21%
Magenta: +8%
Yellow: +7%
Black: +6%

I lowered this layer's opacity to 63%

4) Layer -> Flatten image.

5) Open a new canvas and fill it with black (#000000)

6) Drag your picture into the canvas.

7) I erased those few cushions you can still see on Ryan's left with a soft brush.

8) And to finish the wallpaper, I added some text. I used the font 'Mia's Scribblings' to write 'Ryan Ross' and the font 'Cheryl' to write 'Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon'.
